As part of the education industry, we are fortunate to attend a variety of industry-leading conferences each year. And this year’s ASET (Association for Special Education Technology) 2015 Spring Conference in Niagara Falls was no exception.
Held on April 9th and 10th at the Sheraton on the Falls, the conference welcomed many motivated, creative and passionate educators who exchanged ideas against the backdrop of the majestic falls.
FrontRow shared a booth with our reseller and ASET2015 sponsor Advanced Education, and we got to meet and chat with dozens of special education teachers during the two-day event. We were eager to hear about the new technologies that were helping their students learn, and they were eager to hear about how Juno can support learning through its recording software for lesson reinforcement, and the ease of use and installation that the Juno sound system offers.
Some of the deep discussions we had with the attendees illuminated challenges and opportunities in special education. For instance, we heard from multiple teachers that one of the biggest difficulties in providing quality education is ensuring all students – despite multiple students facing different disabilities – hear the teacher’s voice.
In addition to the great exchange of ideas, the highlight of the conference was its keynote speaker, Alvin Law. Born without arms, Alvin is an accomplished musician, author and motivational speaker. He spoke to an enthralled room about overcoming fear of what others think of you, and focusing on abilities, not appearances. Take a look at some of the Twitter chatter at right for an idea of how inspiring Alvin was.
We would like to thank many of the school boards for attending the conference and stopping by our booth to learn more about FrontRow: A von Maitland, Ottawa Catholic, Hastings Prince Edward, District school board of Niagara, Halton, and Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario, to name a few.
We had a great time learning and connecting with Ontario’s Special Education leaders at this year’s ASET 2015, and we are looking forward to next year!
